Xmas Tesco Hell

by on Dec.22, 2010, under Ramblings

It’s that time of year again, Christmas just round the corner, Noddy Holder is cashing in again, the wife commenting on the Fairy Tale of New York video “wow have you noticed that the bloke in that hasn’t got any teeth”.

All is as it should be, and then you hear that dreaded sentence; “Can you pop to Tesco’s tomorrow after work?”

Oh crapola, can I rather gouge out my eyes with a blunt spoon I think, but the words that come out are actually “of course I can babes”. Oh the delights of no parking spaces, the organisational skills of management of the store who think that to add to every husbands woes should be added to by stocking shelves using industrial sized, isle hogging monoliths that carry 236 cases of cherry cola pushed along by the overweight fat-lad that worked his way up to looking after the soft drinks isle. (That could just be Peterborough’s Hampton store but you get my gist.)

But it’s fine, I’m a bloke, I know exactly what I need, this won’t take long, a quick dash round grabbing those all important things on my list such as cocktail sausages, Turkish delight, sherry just in case my mum comes round ( she hasn’t in 10 years, but you never know – be prepared), and goods such that every household has to have over the festive season.

It is meant to be the season of good will to all men however that feeling will never flows through my body as I try to get out of my head the looped Christmas dittys that plays over the £5.99 audio system in the store. Are Cliff Richards or Johnny Mathis not dead yet?

Shit, it’s tomorrow I have to do it, I am so not prepared. Tesco Hell it is for me, why oh why did I not book a home delivery slot this year?

The Soarer V8 ICE Upgrade

by on Aug.05, 2010, under Pictures, Ramblings

Done the ICE upgrade in the Soarer. Started with a budget of £300, because of the need to buy a new subwoofer, a new single channel amp to run sub and to completely rewire teh whole speaker system it came in at £500 but it sounds pretty damn good.
Here are the before and after pics, note the tray spacer used to fill the 1/2 inch gap is not quite straight, need to get a hairdryer on it and level it.

Here are a few snaps of the car before I did anything to it. It needs new Audio ICE, new lights and inner door handles. Already replace the radiator, bought new inner handles and window piller handle, yet to fit.

Maxwell Club Marmaris Guide

by on Jul.16, 2010, under Ramblings

As promised here are my thoughts on the hotel we stayed in. Finally got around to putting fingers to keyboard.

We arrived at the Hotel at 02:00 in the morning on a Sunday, which normally would be a royal pain in the rear but check in was simple and the night watchman kindly opened up the bar so we could wash away the travelling blues. Sat in the bar till about 5 AM then walked to the beach to see the morning rise.
The hotel is not 5 star, far from it but it was clean, the room we had was good, nothing to complain about, maid service was as you would expect with plenty of room.
The hotel amenities are good, there is an on site health centre should you require a spa or a Turkish bath and a really good hair/shave/tattoo office which we all used, do not go to Turkey without having a Turkish shave.
Aircon is extra in your bedrooms but not too expensive, works out to be about a fiver a night, we only used it on our second week when the temperatures got up to over 40 degrees in the shade.
The hotel bar is good, they do thier best to keep you entertained but top tip; keep an eye on what you are drinking, things that you may or may not have ordered appear on the bill, I am not saying they do it on purpose but be aware. We logged all our drink purchases to an iphone and made sure the staff knew this; this stopped any discrepancies.
The pool was clean and well looked after but if I had of taken the kids it would have been a bit of an issue as it is deep with no shallow end, it is 1.6 metres deep throughout so the ladies could not touch the bottom without taking in mouthfuls of water.
Food was ok if you ate there, we only did a few times, generally breakfast after working out that buying sausages/eggs / bacon etc then cooking it worked out more expensive than having someone else do it for you.
My only gripe would be that you are, under no circumstances allowed to bring any food or drink to the pool area that you have not bought from the bar. So no making a cup of tea and taking it to pool side from your room. No taking bottles of water from the market next door either. So self catering means do it in the room and leave it there.

All in all, a great hotel, great staff would go back again in a heartbeat.

Reply to Phishing Email

Ok I have sent a reply as below with a picture of my passport with a few alterations.

David,

Many thanks for your reply, I was deeply moved by your words and am looking forward to receiving the funds on the Visa card. However I ran this past my son, who I love deeply and is not as trusting as I am and he suggests that even though it does look as though you are genuine I should still ask you for some personal image to show that you are not a person of ill-repute.

As you can’t send me a picture that shows me I am not just an individual chosen from random I am unable to go ahead unless you can find some way of getting a personal picture which pertains to me such as the one I suggested.

However I have enclosed a picture of my passport which I hope goes somewhere to proving to you that I am who I say I am and have taken the time to ensure things are all legitimate. My son did it for me and for security at this stage he has hidden some of my details, I hope you understand.

Best regards and God speed to you and your family.

Pete

Phishing Email – Lets have fun

by on Mar.03, 2010, under Ramblings

Ok, got one of those Emails promising monies owed to me by the Nigerian Govt, if only I send through a sum of monies to cover postage and administration.

Lets Have a bit of fun so here was my response :-

Hi there,

Wow, I have just got the internet and this email came as a great surprise to me but I do have family abroad so you might have just found me in time. I have asked my son, who is really good with computers if this may be real and he said that the only way to tell it is not from someone not being truthful was to ask them to send a picture of themselves holding a sign up with something written on it that only me and they can know.

So if this is true and I do have some money , can you send me a picture of yourself holding up a sign that says ” Pete Burton – Lab 1A ” on it? Lab 1A is the laboratory where I used to work and it will be great seeing that as it is where I got my pension money from that I can use to secure this inheritance for my children.

I will be happy to talk through this deal on receipt of the picture.

Kind regards,
